Passavant Community Host Passavant Olympics

The Passavant Community recently hosted a grand and ceremonial event: the Passavant Olympics. Residents, their families, and staff all participated, celebrating the spirit of the Olympics while engaging in a fun, interactive, and creative community activity.

“This friendly competition for fun with an ASPRE Wellness-focus,” explained Brain Damaska, ASPIRE Wellness Manager. “We utilized the six dimensions of wellness as the foundation for the games.”

The ASPIRE Wellness programs offers a holistic approach to healthy living through six universal Wellness Dimensions that can help one achieve balance and meaning in their life. The following are the six dimensions and the corresponding game for the Passavant Olympics.

  • Active: An obstacle course challenged participants’ physical agility and strength.
  • Spiritual: Bible trivia tested their knowledge and connection to their faith.
  • Purposeful: A “rice challenge” measured how quickly participants could move rice in a strategic way. More importantly, this was complemented by a donation drive that amassed food for the local food bank and 125 pairs of socks for the homeless.
  • Intellectual: Residents competed against a computer in a game of checkers, stimulating their cognitive abilities.
  • Relational: A game of people bingo encouraged participants to ask each other questions about personal traits, experiences, or fun facts, with bingo spaces corresponding to the questions.
  • Expressive: Creativity was put to the test as participants used random items to build the tallest towers they could.

Individual awards were given for each dimension, and team awards recognized the best overall performances. The standout individual winners of the entire event were resident Cathy Peters who took home first place; Mavis Damaska (the daughter of Brain Damaska) claimed second while resident, Ruth Mears, took third.

“I just want to thank everyone who participated, said Damaska “A congrats to our winners and sincere thank you for all of the donations that will help so many out in the local community.”
