Joan Gill, WWII Veteran Turns 102

Passavant Community resident Joan Gill celebrated her 102nd birthday on June 14, marking the occasion with a heartwarming birthday card from Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. Joan’s zest for life inspires everyone around her as she gracefully glides around the campus with her rollator, affectionately named Bentley after the British luxury car brand.

Despite the miles separating her from her beloved England, Joan remains deeply connected to her roots. She uses her iPad to stay in touch with loved ones and passionately supports causes close to her heart, such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

Joan’s life story is nothing short of captivating. Born in Chatham, England, she volunteered for the military at the age of 18, following in her father’s World War I footsteps. As a proud member of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, Joan served with distinction, showcasing her strength and dedication. Along her journey, she married her American sweetheart, Fred, and together they raised a beautiful family of four.

Oh, did we mention she’s royalty-approved? When Gill turned 100, she received birthday wishes from Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth.

We raise a toast (or a cuppa tea, if you prefer) to this extraordinary lady who embodies resilience, grace, and the true spirit of living life to the fullest!
