Volunteers Needed For Meal Delivery Program
The Front Door Delivery Program at Passavant Retirement Community provides residents with the convenience of having a meal delivered to them when they are unable, or choose not to go to their main dining room for dinner. The program supports an Abundant Life® by ensuring proper nutrition and social interaction for our residents.
As the program continues to grow, the Community Outreach Office has announced a new opportunity for adults over 18 to help by transporting meals to independent living residents in the Cottages, Manor Homes and Villas on the Passavant Campus.
“The Front Door Delivery Program is a great way for a volunteer to get to know people,” said Donna Cawthorne, Community Outreach Coordinator at Passavant. “The residents are so appreciative to have their meal delivered. It benefits us as well when the volunteers are able to ‘check in’ with residents who might not be going to the dining room because of illness or injury. It’s like an extra set of eyes.”
Cawthorne said that a strong part of the volunteer’s role in this program is to establish relationships with the residents while making the deliveries. For this reason, she said, volunteers would need to able to commit to a regular schedule one or two days a week. Delivery times are Monday through Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Applicants must also have a valid driver’s license, be able to perform light lifting and of course, enjoy working with older adults.
