St. Anthony's Chapel, located on Troy Hill overlooking the Allegheny River on Pittsburgh's North Side, is a shrine dedicated to "The Wonder Worker," St. Anthony of Padua. It houses the largest public collection of relics in the world and has been designated a Historical Landmark by the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation. Cost of transportation is $8. Join author and historian Thomas White as he explores some of the forgotten tales of Pittsburgh's past. From the evil clown panic to the first armored car robbery, hear the stories that have slipped through the historical cracks. Learn about Hogg's Pond, the Pittsburgh Poisoner, Trotters Curse, a lion attack in Oakland, Pittsburgh's Chinatown, the Jack the Ripper suspect who lived on Liberty Avenue and many more. Mr. White is a University Archivist and Adjunct Professor of History at Duquesne University and Adjunct Professor of History at LaRoche College. For more information call X3431.

In-Service Room

A bridge duplicate game is held the second Saturday of each month in the In-Service Room. This is a game for students, beginners and anyone who wishes to play using the American Standard System. Participants are permitted to ask for help on bidding, leads, play or any other problems encountered. The game is not sanctioned by the American Contract Bridge League. Interested players should contact June Morrison at (724) 452-3686 by the Friday before each game to make a reservation. There is a charge for non-Passavant residents. Dates for the games are as follows:

June 8, July 13, August 10, September 14, October 12, November 9 and December 14.

 

Other bridge classes are offerd by request from 4, 8, 12 players on an as needed occasion. Available times for a 2 1/2 hour class are Wednesday and Friday at 10:00 a.m. Typical topics for inclusion would be Negative Doubles, Blackwood and Gerber, Staymen, Jacoby Transfers, Weak Two's, Strong 2 Club Opening, Forcing and Non-Forcing Bids, End Plays, Rule of Eleven, or other possible requests.
